Be at the Heart of Aged Care: Activities Coordinator

Every day, in every way, we bring real heart to work. It’s what drives us to deliver our refreshingly different person-first commitment to care. That’s why we are seeking an Activities Coordinator like you, to join our brand new ABC Gardens Village & Care Home in Whangārei, a 56-bed care home opening in July 2024. You will enrich the lives of our society’s most vulnerable and be part of an inclusive culture where you can make a difference while growing your career.

About the Role

This role is permanent full-time, an average of 32 hours per week over a 6-week roster cycle. Leading a team of activities staff, you will identify the leisure activities of each resident based on their interests’ preferences and abilities and coordinate an activities programme based on their needs.

Duties and Responsibilities

Manage activity plans for residents across rest home and hospital levels of care.
Plan, develop, and lead individualised activity plans for each resident based on the activity assessment outcome, their interests, and preferences.
Ensure our valuable residents are treated with full respect, dignity, and cultural sensitivity.
Demonstrate knowledge of and adherence to ABC Health & Safety policies
Maintain personal and professional development - we have on-site managers who always encourage our staff to up-skill!

Skills and Qualification

To be successful in this role, you will enjoy a variety of work and have prior experience in this field, along with an interest in and understanding of the elderly and their needs. In this role, you will have a big impact on the quality of life for our residents.

You’ll have a NZQA (or equivalent) Diversional Therapy (level 4) Certificate (or working towards a DT qualification)
A minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar healthcare setting is preferable.
Be able to demonstrate leadership skills with the ability to motivate others.
Have a creative flair to contribute towards a full and varied activities programme and help look after our residents while creating a caring atmosphere. An aptitude for music would be advantageous
You are a caring, team player, vibrant, and energetic, with an active interest in organising activities for multiple levels of function and ability.
Have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ideally, you’ll have a clean, full driver’s license.

Reasons to belong

Fully subsidised Southern Cross health insurance to our eligible permanent NZ employees and a discount on insurance cover for eligible family members.
Wellbeing discounts and advice, EAP counselling services, study support, and cultural leave.
Paid parental leave - in addition to standard parental leave, ABC offers 12 weeks of paid leave for primary carers and 2 weeks for secondary carers.
Refer-a-friend programme of $750 - $2,000.
Professional Development – in-house and external training and development.
Industry-competitive remuneration and benefits, and internal reward and recognition programmes.
No matter who you are or where you come from, we encourage you to ‘Be You at ABC’.
