About us

As the sole provider of air traffic control services in New Zealand (and its surrounding international airspace), ABC has an important role to ensure it provides safe, efficient, and undisrupted access to airspace for all those with a right and need to use it.

About the role

This vacancy is for a permanent Air Traffic Controller at Queenstown Tower, with an initial, defined period as Queenstown Tower Team Leader. As Team Leader, you will be leading a close-knit team of controllers in our Queenstown Tower, championing high standards and excellence in training to safely and successfully deliver services to our customers every day.  Whilst this is predominantly a leadership role you will be required to hold a current ATC license. If you are looking for your next leadership challenge in aviation, at a fast paced and complex unit surrounded by some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world, then this could be a tempting move for you!

As a Team Leader, you will represent the face of ABC to our customers and within our business; you will have the ability to communicate across many layers while actively supporting the aims of our company to deliver a safe, efficient and sustainable service.

Queenstown Tower sector is a 7 days a week (may include nights), shift working roster which is based on a four days on, two days off rotating pattern with an average of approximately 35 - 40 hours of work per week.

ABC is an NZ Immigration Accredited Employer. The base salary range for an Air Traffic Controller sits between $98,083– $143,586 and will be based on previous experience. Additional roster allowances and superannuation will be offered on top of the base salary and are subject to change from time to time, depending on the roster construct, and duties undertaken. These allowances and superannuation contributions may take the total package to between $133,598 – $195,578 (current at time of publication). The Team Leader responsibility carries a responsibility loading of 20% that will be paid for the duration of that stint.

Your initial Team Leader stint is for a period of two years.  Within three months of the expiry of the initial two-year period, ABC will consider, in consultation with you, whether to offer you a further two years stint as Team Leader.

Upon the end of your Queenstown Tower Team Leader stint, you will continue in your full time, permanent employment as a Queenstown Tower Air Traffic Controller.

The successful applicant will have displayed an impressive ability to lead others and effectively manage the safe and efficient delivery of Air Traffic Services. They should have proven experience in building positive and professional relationships with customers, ideally at an International Tower unit where traffic demand sometimes outstrips available capacity. They should also have experience maintaining optimum proficiency standards and ATS training, be willing and able to obtain Controller ratings and OJTI check ratings at Queenstown Tower, have a current controller license, and previous experience of controlling at a fast-paced and complex Tower.

The role of Team Leader will initially be for two years and renewable for a further two-year term by mutual agreement. At the end of the agreed term, you would revert to a controller position.

If this sounds like you and an opportunity not to be missed, please apply now!
