About the Role:
The Technology Group is responsible for the effective delivery, management, and services of all technology disciplines within the air navigation services environment. These include Oceanic and Domestic Air Traffic Management, Security and a National MPLS Network, National Operations / Maintenance and Specialist Support, Information Technology and Service Management, Project Delivery, Flight Inspection and National Engineering.
The operations and maintenance team provides the expertise and support in engineering design development and management for projects, installation, maintenance, and fault repair for ABC ground-based aviation infrastructure, communications, navigation, and surveillance (CNS) systems.
Operations and Maintenance includes teams located throughout New Zealand, and a 24/7 National Operations Centre. Monitoring the performance, ensuring the reliability and availability of ABC infrastructure and CNS systems, so they are available when required, operating to defined specifications, to meet agreed customer service availability.
The purpose of the CNS Technician position is to work at the Auckland Technical Centre as part of Auckland Communications, Navigation and Surveillance (CNS) Maintenance Team to maintain the functionality of ABC operational systems by:
Performing fault rectification.
Conducting preventative maintenance.
Installing CNS equipment.
The position expects that the role-holder will be willing to undertake from time-to-time night and weekend work as necessary and work in a variety of outdoor environmental and weather conditions to ensure the reliability, functionality and safety of the CNS systems.
About You:
To be successful in the role, you will have:
Bachelor of Engineering Technology, NZCE Telecommunications, Supplementary Radio Technicians Certificate or Electro Technology Diploma in Telecommunications (or equivalent).
Experience with technical systems and equipment, preferably radio systems, air navigational aids, radar systems, and power systems.
Proven experience in complex engineering problem solving and rectification with quality outcomes in an organisation of similar size and complexity to ABC.
Experience in building and site management, hazard identification and risk analysis and mitigation. Must be safety focused with excellent operational and situational awareness and personal health, including the ability to climb structures with confidence, work at heights and in a variety of weather conditions.
Current NZ Drivers Licence and good driving ability to gain an Airport Driving Licence.
Desirable if experienced in leading teams and contactors on projects and tasks. Ideally have Electrical workers registration EASQ or higher. Ability to work in a dynamic team and business environment, collaborate with people, show resilience and agility, take ownership and focus on delivering successful outcomes.
Hours of work:
40 hours a week, Monday to Friday 8.30am – 5.00pm.
Once competencies have been achieved, participation in a Standby Roster (typically one week in four) for out of normal working hour’s fault repair is also required.

Salary Guidelines:
The base salary range is between $81,718 - $94,314 and the offer will be dependent on skills and experience. Once you progress to Principal CNS Technician, the salary band is $112,289 - $127,564.
In addition to this there is the potential to earn penal rates for work outside normal work hours and overtime for additional hours worked when you qualify to work in the roster. On top of the base salary and penal rates, ABC offers a generous superannuation scheme with employer contributions of up to 11% of earnings.
