About the role:

As a Site Reliability Engineer at ABC in the Metrics and Monitoring team and part of the wider SRE team you’ll make an impact by working closely with ABC’s Product teams. You’ll agree on shared objectives, build and implement sophisticated monitoring and remediation toolsets and create a culture focussed on continually improving the operation of ABC’s platform and applications. A strong focus will be on improving observability practices at ABC.

As a Site Reliability Engineer you will participate in making key software architecture decisions and supporting good practices. You will also be involved in identifying opportunities for improvement within the Engineering Experience team.

What you'll do:

- Improve on ABC's internal alerting and analysis tools to enable faster problem detection and recovery.
- Provide guidance around tooling, standards and practices in monitoring, tracing, logging and observability.
- Support and enable our product teams in troubleshooting issues around observability support systems.
- Be a part of an on-call roster with the wider SRE team responding to ABC-wide incidents.
- Build and maintain tools that reduce toil in managing our monitoring and logging platforms.
- Make it easier for other engineering teams to achieve a high standard of system awareness.
- Empower our ABC developers to create more efficient, scalable and reliable applications for ABC's customers.
- Collaborate and contribute to the team.

What you'll bring:

- Experience working to improve operational outcomes for software systems in production environments, on call experience is a plus.
- Good working knowledge of reliability and observability concepts and practices, knowledge and experience building and/or monitoring with distributed systems and microservices is a plus.
- Proficiency in one or more object-oriented programming languages like C#, JavaScript, Golang, Python etc.
- Experience in systems engineering/administration, eg. familiarity with cloud platforms, Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, IaC, CICD tools, is a plus.
- Have an understanding of instrumenting applications and integrating with monitoring solutions like New Relic, Datadog, Dynatrace, SignalFX, Scalyr, Sumo Logic or Splunk, experience is a plus.
- The ability to engage and build relationships with internal stakeholders.
