ABC are a leading provider of civil engineering materials testing services both in the laboratory and field. We're looking for a skilled and motivated individual to join our site investigation team as a Drilling Rig Operator for our crawler mounted rig.
The Terrier Drilling Rig Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the rig on construction, environmental, and engineering projects. This role involves operating the machinery, maintaining the machinery and associated equipment, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols. You will be supported but responsible for identifying and targeting opportunities and securing work.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
As the Terrier Drilling Rig Operator, you'll play a vital role in ensuring our drilling projects run smoothly and efficiently. You'll be responsible for the safe setup, operation, and maintenance of our Terrier drilling rig. This includes:
- Set up, operate, and maintenance of the rig and associated equipment.
- Operate the drill safely and efficiently to create boreholes according to project specifications.
- Monitor and adjust drilling parameters based on ground conditions.
- Have a sound understanding of the limitations and abilities of a Terrier rig and apply this knowledge to ensure successful project outcomes.
- Maintain accurate logs of drilling activity, including footage drilled, encountered materials, and equipment used.
- Perform pre-drilling inspections to ensure the safe operation of the rig.
- Assist with minor repairs and adjustments to the drilling equipment.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders, customers and other staff
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures on the job site.
- Collection and handling of soil, rock or water samples when as required during the drilling process.
- Stocking, monitoring, and re-ordering of parts and associated consumables.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications.
- Physically fit to perform the duties of the job, including lifting heavy objects, and working in all weather conditions.
Safety: You'll prioritize safety on the job site, following all company safety protocols and procedures. Recordkeeping: You'll maintain accurate logs of drilling activity, including depths, formations encountered, and any issues encountered.
You're the Ideal Candidate if You Have:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience operating drilling rigs, preferably with Percussion and Rotary rig experience.
- A strong understanding of drilling principles and procedures.
- Excellent mechanical aptitude and the ability to perform basic rig maintenance.
- A valid driver's license.
- A strong commitment to safety
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to work long hours and in various weather conditions.
- The drive and ability to win work.
