Mechanical Engineer

ABC Plywood is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to lead the team of Fitters at the Tokoroa Mill. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this role is responsible for a team of fitters and contractors, engineering projects and planning, and supporting the delivery of the overall site objectives in relation to people, production, costs, health, safety and quality. This is a Monday to Friday role with flexibility required due to the continuous manufacturing environment.

The role:

To lead and manage a team of fitters and contractors that is engaged, cohesive and accountable, and strive to achieve high performance standards
Ensure appropriate people resourcing levels to be able to maintain production schedules
Manage engineering projects ensuring short and long term viability of the PLY Mill plant and equipment
Optimise plant and production performance through the integration of planning, engineering services and projects
Ensure costs are managed against budget
Support and implement best practice maintenance systems and engineering processes that improve reliability, contribute to production targets and quality
Lead health and safety standards
Contributing member of the maintenance lead team
Contribute continuous improvement initiatives

About you:

Mechanical engineering tertiary qualification (bachelor level or equivalent)
Minimum 10 years engineering leadership experience
Previous experience managing teams including shifts
Prior experience managing to budget
Project Management experience and/or qualification
Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office suite and ERM system (SAP or Business Central)
Experience managing and implementing best practice
Previous experience managing within a 24/7 industrial manufacturing environment
Knowledge and experience of current health and safety practices
Experience with continuous improvement programmes
