The route to a career in psychology can be difficult journey. ABC Services' Regional Intellectual Disability Supported Accommodation Service (RIDSAS) has an exciting opportunity for you to gain meaningful supervised experience and develop your clinical skills while working for a well established not-for-profit.

We are looking for an Intern Psychologist or a New Graduate Psychologist to join both our Auckland and Wellington RIDSAS Services. However, we may support a person who has completed their Masters looking to enrol in an internship programme for 2024.

Mō te tūnga | About the role

RIDSAS is contracted by the Ministry of Health to provide rehabilitation services to people with high and complex needs, who have had contact with the justice system. Our approach includes translating therapeutic processes into practice and seeking out rehabilitation opportunities while managing any risks associated with rehabilitation.

Over the course of a 12-month fixed term contract you will gain exposure to working in the disability sector with a wide range of clients from different backgrounds, ethnicities and diagnosed syndromes. You will be providing high quality clinical support to people throughout their rehabilitation journey.

This will include:

Assessing clients (under clinical supervision / managerial discretion) to identify the client's risks, needs and goals.
Developing and implementing focused pieces of work to address specific behaviours / needs as directed.
Evaluating focused pieces of work to ensure they are meeting the client's agreed goals.

Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bring

Eligible for Registration (Full or Intern) in a relevant scope of practice with the New Zealand Psychology Board. Candidates with a completed Masters Degree in Psychology may also be considered.
An interest in working in the Health and Disability sector. Previous experience working in Health and Disability would be a bonus
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt to your audience
Cultural competence and the ability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tirirti o Waitangi
Ability to work in an environment with diverse individuals, being open-minded and non-judgmental in your approach
Have a full NZ drivers' licence
